What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a safe, natural and effective way to treat all kinds of emotional, nervous or psychological problems.
It uses hypnosis, a natural state of calm for your body and mind where you can have focused attention on your goals and what you would like to achieve.
Throughout hypnosis you are in control at all times. Nobody can make you do anything you do not want to – your subconscious mind will simply reject any suggestion that is inappropriate for you.
At Sage Hypnotherapy, I use a solution focused approach combining ‘talking therapy’ with hypnosis. I offer you a safe, calm and neutral space where we can work together to make positive changes and achieve your goals.
“Through your sessions, I feel like my life is back on track. Not only have you helped me to overcome the constant worry and anxiety I had but also given me the tools to enable me to deal with situations that previously would have floored me. I am hugely grateful for your help.”

Anxiety and stress are very natural feelings which we all experience at some time during our lives.
However, anxiety can become so severe that it impacts your ability to go about your daily life. You may feel constantly on edge or worried that things are about to go wrong, always imagining the worst-case scenario.
If you are finding it difficult to manage your anxiety or stress, hypnotherapy can help you to break this cycle and give you more control over your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so that you can start focusing on living the life you want.
Using a solution focused approach, we can start to reduce your anxiety and stress, enabling you to feel calm, confident and in control again.

We all have times when we feel down and usually this passes with time. But when these feelings persist and start to interfere with daily life it could be a sign that you are experiencing depression. Feelings of anxiety and low self-esteem often go hand in hand with depression and you may feel like you have lost interest in aspects of your life or feel guilty about letting others down, as well as disturbances in eating or sleeping habits or finding it difficult to concentrate.
Hypnotherapy can be extremely effective in helping to break the cycle of depression, to begin to lift your mood, rediscover your self-confidence and focus on the positive aspects of your life.
Using a solution focused approach, we can work to bring about change so that you can look forward to making new memories, embracing new opportunities and focusing on the positives in each and every day.

Fear is a natural and healthy response that we all have to danger. Phobias however, are a much more intense and often irrational response than fear and can lead to severe anxiety and panic attacks for some people.
Using a solution focused approach, hypnotherapy can help you reframe your thought process around the specific object, experience or situation so that when faced with it, you can respond to it in a much more measured and calm way.

Would you like to stop smoking? Many smokers would like to quit and despite knowing how detrimental cigarettes are for their health, well being and bank balance, continue to smoke. That is because the mind is a very powerful and persuasive tool! Whilst the brain can work wonderfully well for us, it can also do the opposite and convince us that it will be impossible to manage any given day without a cigarette because we are addicted to them and need them to feel calmer and more relaxed.
If you genuinely want to stop smoking, hypnotherapy can be an extremely effective tool breaking this habit. Using a solution focused approach, hypnotherapy can help you stop so that you can start feeling healthier, happier and really proud of yourself for giving up a habit you never thought you could.
I offer a one-off session lasting up to two hours and you will also receive a motivational CD/MP3 to take away with you.

Having a baby is such an exciting time but it can also feel daunting and scary and those feelings are often amplified during pregnancy. Hypnotherapy can help pregnant women and their partner to feel calm and relaxed during pregnancy, ease any fears and anxieties that you may be feeling. It is extremely safe and can help to support you both mentally and physically as you prepare for the birth of your baby. Many women choose hypnobirthing classes to help them prepare for and experience their best possible birth, calmly and confidently.
As a Clinical Hypnotherapist and qualified KG Hypnobirthing Teacher, I am absolutely passionate about empowering women and their partners to feel calm, confident and strong at such a special time. It is so important for mums-to-be to feel informed and confident about their birth and it can make such a huge difference if you feel relaxed and calm during pregnancy and labour.
Read more about the Hypnobirthing classes I offer here.
If you would like to talk about something not listed above, please do still get in touch as hypnotherapy can be effective in many other areas too.
How does Hypnotherapy work?
Treatment is a collaborative process, designed to reduce anxiety, calm the mind and support you. Together we will focus on solutions and the future rather than dwelling on problems or the past, although we can always talk about anything that would you like to address during the course of your treatment.
It is important to understand that change happens because you want it to and because you are prepared to take the necessary steps to allow it to happen.

Hypnosis is a natural state of calm for your body and mind. It is an individual experience, but generally people report feeling relaxed, calm and with an overall sense of well being. You are in control at all times. Nobody can make you do anything you do not want to – your subconscious mind will simply reject any suggestion that is inappropriate for you.

Our starting point is an initial consultation usually lasting around 1 hour, during which we can talk about any issues in confidence. I will also explain in detail how hypnotherapy works and answer any questions you may have about the process. Following that initial session, treatment programmes are tailored to each individual and we will discuss the format of the sessions during the initial consultation. Sessions last approximately 50 minutes and are part talking and part hypnosis.
There is always time to discuss the session at the end and answer any questions you might have.
-
I am often asked this question, but it is a difficult one to answer as the number of sessions varies depending on the individual and reason for seeking treatment.
We can discuss how many sessions might be needed at your initial consultation, but I book sessions on a weekly basis and we regularly assess how you feel you are progressing.
